Movie Summary

John Lee Hancock
The Rookie is an inspiring 2003 sports drama based on a true story. Jim Morris (Dennis Quaid) has a nice life, he coaches a Texas high school team, has a lovely wife, Lorri (Rachel Griffith), and a great son, Hunter Morris (Angus T. Jones). Yet, there's a faraway look in his eye as he scans the Texas landscape from his front porch. As a young man, he pitched in the minor leagues but an arm injury prevented him from making it to the majors. Now 35, he makes what seems like an outlandish bet with his school team. If they make the playoffs, he will try out with a big league team. Both the team and the coach get their wins, and Jim finds himself far from his family, surrounded by teenagers, back in the minor leagues. Can his miraculous fast ball get him a spot on the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' roster? Directed by John Lee Hancock ("The Blind Side"), this captivating drama demonstrates that it really is never too late for dreams to come true.moreless
