Movie Summary

Director:

Released:
2001
Rating:
R
The Royal Tenenbaums is a film from director Wes Anderson (The Life Aquatic, The Darjeeling Limited) about the Tenenbaum family- father Royal (Gene Hackman), mother Etheline (Angelica Houston), and precocious bordering on genius children, Margot (Gwyneth Paltrow), Richie (Luke Wilson), and Chas (Ben Stiller). Chas is a math genius, Margot, who was adopted, receives a grant for a play she wrote in ninth grade, and Richie is a tennis prodigy and artists. Margot is the object of many of Richie’s paintings, and his best friend is next-door neighbor Eli Cash (Owen Wilson). The Tenenbaum parents are divorced when the children are young, and this event, in combination with the lack of affection or encouragement Royal displayed towards his children, has led to them all having experienced their peaks in their youth.
