The Run of the Country is a 1995 drama about the troubled relationship between a father and son living in Ireland together. Danny (Matt Keeslar) is a carefree 18-year-old boy still having trouble dealing with the death of his mother. He partly blames his father (Albert Finney) for her death, which causes a rift between the two of them. At the same time, his father is becoming bored with his life. A police chief in a small Irish town, he longs for something exciting to happen so that he can properly investigate a crime. Things take a turn for the worse between father and son when Danny moves in with his no-good friend, Prunty (Anthony Brophy) and begins seeing a young woman from Northern Ireland named Annagh (Victoria Smurfit). His father disapproves of the relationship because he is bigoted against those from Northern Ireland, and the disagreement threatens to permanently destroy his relationship with his son.
