The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming is one of those classic comedies that could only have been made in Cold War-era America. With a stellar cast that includes Alan Arkin, Carl Reiner, Eva Marie Saint and Jonathan Winters, it earned four Academy Award nominations in 1966, and won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. The plot find a Russian submarine with an incompetent captain run aground near an island off the coast of Massachusetts. The captain sends a landing party ashore led by Lieutenant Yuri Rozanov (Arkin) to search for a boat to free the sub. The colorful characters on the island, including vacationing playwright Walk Whittaker (Reiner), assume that the Russians have come to invade the island, and comic mishaps ensue as the Russians fumble every attempt to solicit help. But it takes a potential tragedy for the Russians and the islanders to realize that they have more in common than they could ever have imagined.moreless
