The Sandpiper is a 1965 romantic drama directed by Vincente Minnelli. In the film, Laura Reynolds (Elizabeth Taylor) is a free-spirited artist who lives with her teenage son, Danny (Morgan Mason), on a secluded California beach. Laura's way of thinking does not conform to what other people consider normal. She has passed on her way of thinking to her son. Unfortunately for Danny, his curiosity and mother's teachings have led him to a few run-ins with the law. In hopes of deterring her son from getting in more trouble, Laura has began to home school him. Despite her trying to confine him, Danny gets in more trouble and Laura cannot get him out of it this time. A judge sentences Danny to Dr. Edward Hewitt's (Richard Burton) Episcopalian boarding school. Initially, Dr. Hewitt and Laura have heated exchanges about Danny. As time goes on, Laura and Dr. Hewitt develop a relationship. How will his headmaster and his mother's relationship affect Danny?
