The Scavengers is a 1959 noir film centered around a man who becomes increasingly involved in shady business, despite his desires to abscond the black market. The film, written and directed by John Cromwell (Caged, Since You Went Away), stars Vincent Edward (Ben Casey, The Killing, The Victors) and Marilyn Monroe-contender, Carol Ohmart (House on Haunted Hill, Spider Baby, Wild Youth). Years ago, Stuart moved to Asia and engrained himself in an illegal smuggling business. His wife Marion (Carol Ohmart), who he still loves and adores, left him before leaving for Asia. Six years have elapsed and Stuart has no clue as to Marion's whereabouts. Nevertheless, he wants out of the seedy business he is involved in, so he decides to leave Asia. But just as he is making his escape, he catches a glimpse of Marion who appears more like a drugged up, money-fiending version of his ex-wife. He is tempted to stay and investigate the truth behind Marion, but the closer he gets to ascertaining answers, the more he is enwrapped in dirty business.moreless
