Movie Summary

Director:
Michel Gondry
Released:
2006
Rating:

The Science of Sleep is a 2006 drama from visionary filmmaker Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Green Hornet) starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Charlotte Gainsbourg in a story about one young man whose vivid imagination and unbridled creative spirit do little to help him understand and relate to other people in his life. Bernal plays Stephane Miroux, whose dreams are often more enjoyable than daily life. He has trouble finding a place for himself in normal society, as no one seems to appreciate his artistic abilities. Gainsbourg plays Stephanie, a young woman who has recently moved into Stephane's apartment building. Stephanie is also artistic, and she immediately feels a natural attraction towards Stephane. As their romance develops, Stephanie proves she could be the bridge Stephane needs to relate to other people. The Science of Sleep is a visually stunning and stylized film about one young dreamer trying to separate his visions from reality.
