The Scout is the story Al Percolo (Albert Brooks), a baseball scout for the New York Yankees. His superiors task him with signing and bringing back a young pitching prodigy, Tommy Lacy (Michael Rappaport). Al attends the game and goes to dinner with Tommy and his incredibly religious parents. He gets the whole family to agree, but Tommy chickens out at the last moment and throws a fit right at Yankee Stadium. Al's boss tells him to take a long vacation and not come back until further notice. Al travels to Mexico to get as far away from New York as possible. He attends a baseball game there and sees Steve Nebraska (Brendan Fraser), a young American player who pitches at over 100 miles per hour and hits homers 100% of the time. When Al calls his superiors about this miracle, however, they immediately fire him. All this does nothing to deter the scout. He makes Steve an offer and takes him back to America, intent on making this young man a star.moreless
