The Second Time Around is a western comedy about a young woman's journey to Arizona in the early 1900s. Lucretia Rogers (Debbie Reynolds) leaves New York after her husband's death in search of a way to support her family. She is promised a job in a small Arizona town but arrives to find that her future employer has been killed. She manages to find work as a ranch hand but struggles with the difficulties of life on the frontier. Lucretia eventually adjusts to her new surroundings and works to make a positive change in the town. As recognition for her efforts, Lucretia is elected sheriff. Pat Collins (Andy Griffith) and Dan Jones (Steve Forrest) are two of the town's residents, both intent on winning Lucretia's affection at any cost. When Lucretia is taken prisoner by a group of criminals, the men rush to try and save her. In the process, one of them is finally able to win her heart.
