The Sentinel is 2006 crime drama starring Oscar winners Michael Douglas ("Wall Street") and Kim Basinger ("L.A. Confidential"). Secret Service agent Pete Garrison (Michael Douglas) survived a bullet during President Reagan's assassination attempt, and now he thinks another plot is imminent against current President Ballentine (David Rasche). He believes a neo-Nazi group is behind the plan and present in the White House. The murder of a fellow agent interrupts his investigation and Garrison fails a lie detector test, because he's hiding his affair with First Lady Sarah Ballentine (Kim Basinger). He goes on the run to protect the First Lady's reputation, but remains determined to save the President and to fulfill his sworn duty. His former best friend and prot''g'' David Breckinridge (Kiefer Sutherland) keeps the focus on Garrison, perhaps as payback for an illicit affair Garrison had with his wife. Director Clark Johnson keeps a fast pace through the action and plot twists in this politically charged thriller.
