The Sentinel, an adaptation of Jeffrey Konvitz's novel of the same name, is a 1977 horror film directed by Michael Winner. After surviving a traumatic childhood that caused her to attempt suicide, Alison Parker (Christina Raines) is now a successful fashion model in New York City. She decides to rent a new apartment in Brooklyn so that she will be able to live independently from her boyfriend, a lawyer named Michael Lerman (Chris Sarandon). Although the apartment is in an ideal location, Alison is scared of her neighbor, a blind priest named Friar Halloran (John Carradine) who constantly stares out of his window. Almost instantly after Alison moves into the complex, she starts to have strange headaches, as well as horrifying dreams and hallucinations of ghosts. As Alison descends into madness and succumbs to a mysterious illness, Michael decides to investigate her claims that there are dark forces in her home. When he discovers that Alison's new apartment is the gateway to Hell, he must struggle to save her from evil forces within it.
