The September Issue

Movie Summary

Director:
R.J. Cutler
Released:
2008
Rating:
PG-13
The September Issue is a 2009 documentary which exposes the work, sweat, and tears that come with working for fashion tyrant Anna Wintour at Vogue magazine. The film was directed by renown documentary filmmaker R. J. Cutler (The War Room, American High, Black. White.) The cameras follow creative director Grace Coddington as she struggles to satisfy editor-in-chief Anna Wintour with her production for the 2007 September issue of Vogue. The film captures Anna and Grace during their best and worst moments as they travel to Europe for fashion shows, hold urgent and impromptu staff meetings, and visit photo shoots. Cutler captures the good with the bad - Grace is often driven to her wit's end with Anna's unreasonable requests. It is actually quite surprising Cutler and his film crew were granted access to such intimate moments. The September Issue is reminiscent of The Devil Wears Prada, only it's the real thing. Be sure to watch if you are interested in fashion, photography, journalism, or artistic process.moreless
