The Shawshank Redemption: Special Edition

Movie Summary

Director:
Frank Darabont
Released:
1994
Rating:
R
The Shawshank Redemption is the 1994 gripping prison drama based on the Stephan King novella starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, and is now available on Netflix. The film's lack of box office success was made up for in its cable and DVD popularity, and has been hailed one of the most compelling films ever made by U.S cinema. In 1940's America, banker Andy Dufresne (Robbins) is wrongly convicted of shooting his wife and her lover, and sent for to Shawshank State Penitentiary for life. There he meets life inmate Red (Freeman) who is known to be a man to get things from the outside for paying inmates. The two form a friendship that spans Andy's twenty years at Shawshank. As times change and drift away, most inmates become comforted by the prison walls that cage them, and grow to love and depend on them – but not Andy Dufresne. Despite being respected among the prisoners, guards, and even the Warden (Bob Gunton), Dufresne never loses his hope for freedom and never forgets the truth.moreless
