The Sheik is a 1921 film that was directed by George Melford and based on the novel by Edith Maude Hall. In the film, Lady Diana Mayo (Agnes Ayres) hates the idea of marriage and the thought of losing her independence. To get away from her several suitors, she decides to spend one month traveling through the desert by herself. The evening before she is to leave on her journey, she sneaks into a party that is supposed to be only for Arabs. She catches the attention of the Sheik Ahmed Ben Hassan (Rudolph Valentino), who is amused at her angry outburst when she is kicked out of the party. He devises a plan, with the help of Mustapha Ali (Charles Brinley), Lady Diana's guide for her trip, to play a trick on her and capture her in the desert. The Sheik is successfully able to capture Lady Diana but she is not happy about it. Over the next several days, the two of them grow closer and the Sheik begins to feel bad about his actions. When Lady Diana is kidnapped by his enemy Sheik Omair (Walter Long), he realizes his true feelings, but is it too late?moreless
