The Sheltering Sky is a 1990 action drama featuring a married couple who make their way to Africa in the late 1940's with the hope of rekindling their love for each other. The couple, Kit (Debra Winger) and Port (John Malkovich), also hope that the exotic trip will add some much-needed adventure into their lives and so they decide to bring their mutual friend, George Tunner (Campbell Scott), along for the ride as well. However, all lives are soon changed when George and Kit act on their inhibitions and have a torrid affair while on the trip. Now in the middle of an unexpected love triangle, the three see each of their beliefs changed while still scouring the large lands and numbing heat of post-war North Africa. The Sheltering Sky was directed by Oscar winner Bernardo Bertolucci and was adapted from a novel by the same name written by Paul Bowles.
