The minds and voices behind The Simpsons talk about the idea for the show, the "secret" to its success, and their favorite lines from the first 400 episodes. This William S. Paley Television Festival evening honors The Simpsons, an animated comedy series about the Simpson family -- Homer and Marge and their children, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. Rebecca Faez (director of administration, The Paley Center for Media, Los Angeles) welcomes the audience and introduces Craig Tomashoff (West Coast bureau chief, TV Guide), who moderates the following panelists: executive producer and creator Matt Groening; executive producers Al Jean, Matt Selman, Ian Maxtone-Graham, and Tim Long, director Mark Kirkland; producer David Mirkin, producer Carolyn Omine, and voice actor Nancy Cartwright (Bart Simpson). The panelists take the stage to discuss topics such as how Matt Groening came up with the idea for the show, whether the crew ever thought the show would last 400 episodes, the "secret" to the show's success, how the stories are conceived, fan reaction and input, the crew's favorite lines from the show, the antics of celebrity guests, and why the show is based in Springfield.
