The Skull (from a story by Robert Bloch, the original author of "Psycho") is a moody tale of Gothic horror. • TRIVIA (1)

      • When this film opened in 1966, its producers were sued by the modern-day descendant of the Marquis de Sade, who claimed (with reason) that it was a libel upon his notorious ancestor. The result was that the film was banned in France for some time.

    • NOTES (1)

      • The real-life Marquis de Sade, whilst notorious for his writings and his sexual excesses, was never known to have had any interest in diabolism or the occult, contrary to the claims of this film, and he almost certainly never killed anyone - he was the only officer of the French Revolution who never once signed a death warrant.
