The Slugger's Wife is a 1985 romantic comedy directed by Hal Ashby and written by Neil Simon. In the film, Debby (Rebecca De Mornay) and Darryl (Michael O'Keefe) are a young couple who have fallen in love and got married. Darryl is a professional baseball player employed by the Atlanta Braves. Debby is an aspiring singer whose career has not fully taken off yet. Soon after the wedding, the couple comes to the realization that their careers make their married life more difficult. Each of them has different obligations and both of them are required to travel. Their busy schedules make their married life begin on shaky ground. In order to preserve the marriage, Debby makes a difficult decision, so she can spend more time with Darryl. Unfortunately for the couple, fixing their schedules does not eliminate all of their problems. Will this young couple be able to adjust to married life, or are they doomed to fail?
