The Snows of Kilimanjaro takes a look back on the life of writer Harry Street (Gregory Peck), who is dying from an infection caused by a thorn pick while on safari in Africa. In the shadow of the famous mountain, delirious Harry recounts what he believes has been a wasted and failed life. He blames his wife, Helen (Susan Hayward), for distracting him from his purpose of writing, to write about the interesting people and the experiences of the poor, with a life of decadence. He recalls his true love Cynthia Green (Ava Gardner), whom he lost while wandering the world looking for stories. Though he's had successful novel after successful novel, he believes he had to compromise his beliefs in order to achieve that success. Helen endures his tortured ramblings while tending to his wounds, begging him to hold on until medical help can arrive. The film is based on a short story by the same name written by Ernest Hemingway. The 1952 film was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction.moreless
