The Sons of Katie Elder is a western film that was released on July 1, 1965. The film takes place in 1898 and revolves around the four sons of Katie Elder. John Elder (John Wayne), Tom (Dean Martin), Bud (Michael Anderson Jr.) and Matt (Earl Holliman) come together in their hometown of Clearwater, Texas for the funeral of their mother. Katie Elder was respected and liked in her community, unlike her sons. John was a professional gunfighter and Tom was heavy into gambling. After Katie died, the older sons decided to do something in her honor; raise money so they can send their youngest brother Bud to school. The brothers decide to sell another man's horses to raise the money. However, their plan is put on hold when the Elders find out that a gunsmith named Morgan Hastings (James Gregory) was responsible for the death of their father years ago. The Elders set their sights on proving Morgan's guilt.
