Metacritic Score

  • 80

The New York Times Dana Stevens

The movie itself triumphs by similar means; it is a marvel of unleashed childishness, like a birthday party on the edge of spinning out of control.

  • 80

    Los Angeles Times Kenneth Turan

Its instinctive, unstoppable cheerfulness can be, as all those millions of viewers have found, something of a tonic if you're in the mood.

  • 70

    Variety Todd McCarthy

Possesses charm, as well as visual and musical appeal, on the bigscreen. But as with many short-form TV entities when sextupled in length, "SpongeBob" proves more palatable as scru...

  • This started the decline!

This is where the show started to suck! The creator quit because he was not getting any credit for ever creating SpongeBob, Nick was! And STILL is! I agree with the previous review, this film stunk on ice, it was terrible, a complete waste of time and money!

UPDATE ON FEBRUARY 2 (originally posted last year on July 16): Nick has an upcoming show called Breadwinners that airs in 20 days. Today I found the pilot on YouTube and showed it to my family. EVERYONE HATED IT! They all said it was the worst thing they'd seen in their lives. And that includes The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure (2012), Spider's Web: A Pig's Tale (2006), and Rabbids Invasion. So I won't be surprised when Breadwinners gets a 1.9 just like Marvin Marvin here at and Spider's Web: A Pig's Tale at IMDb. My Aunt said I should rate it as low as possible just to get the score down. Unfortunately, the lowest one can rate is 1, unless you are a prolific author. I have been working on that for months (6 plus months), so I can rate stuff like Marvin Marvin, Fred: The Show, and The Oogieloves a 0.0. Breadwinners is next on my "to rate 0.0 once I can" list.

UPDATE ON FEBRUARY 18: Breadwinners premiered yesterday. I have reviewed it. It's bad but not as bad as Sanjay and Craig. Also, I'm lowering my score for The Nightmare Before Christmas from 5 to 1 because this has 8.5 when The Lion King has only 8.3. That's not right! Hence why The Nightmare Before Christmas has 7.9 now. I'd lower this one too, but it'd still be rated with 8.5 even if I changed it from 2 to 1 (I did try it first before changing it back).moreless

  • I miss this movie so much

This was the first movie that actually made me cry watching it. It was that good. The story is actually interesting, the voices are classic, the humor is all over the place and the end was just right. I can't say anything bad about this movie at all except that the episodes after it had no connection to this movie. Shouldn't Plankton know the formula now? Why does he need to steal it AGAIN? How is he out of jail? What happened to the Krusty Krab 2? What ever happened to Patrick and Spongebob being genuinely likeable and cool? After this movie, the series turned to shit. This was the last good of Spongebob, PERIOD.moreless
