The Stars Caravan is an epic documentary which candidly depicts a post-Soviet Kyrgyzstan. Although it is an independent country now detached from communism, it is still deprived of many Western luxuries. The film was made by Arto Halonen, a Finnish documentarian, in 2000. His approach to filming the people of Kyrgyzstan in their most natural state proved quite successful, as they seem unfathomed by cameras when speaking about their dreams and desires. The Stars Caravan exposes the varying opinions regarding the collapse of the Soviet Union. With little access to art, culture, and film, some people reminisce about the anti-alcohol propaganda movies that were available during communist times. In addition to offering a history of Kyrgyzstan, the film also includes beautiful shots of the cites - some completely barren with only a few dilapidated buildings. The Stars Caravan is a wonderful film, especially for those interested in the history Kyrgyzstan and travel.
