The Station Agent is a 2003 character drama about a loner seeking seclusion at an abandoned train station. Weary of the stares at his four-foot, five-inch height, Finbar McBride (Peter Dinklage) moves to a rural New Jersey town to get away from other people. As he takes a walk into town, he almost gets run over by Olivia (Patricia Clarkson), a local artist. A very loud and gregarious food vendor, Joe (Bobby Cannavale) parks his food truck outside his new home. In spite of his best efforts to keep to himself, Fin begins to find a connection with Olivia and Joe, who have suffered their own sense of isolation. In spite of the rude stares of many of the townsfolk, he meets a pretty young woman named Emily (Michelle Williams), who does not see his dwarfism but the sensitive soul. Writer and director Thomas McCarthy won an Independent Spirit Award and BAFTA Film Award for this poignant drama about disconnected souls creating a community.moreless
