The Book of Ruth is a biblical Christian film directed by Stephen Patrick Walker based on one of the books of the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament that centers on the story of a young Moabite woman, Ruth (Sherry Morris), whose Hebrew husband dies, leaving her to follow her mother-in-law Naomi (Eleese Lester) back to Israel. When they arrive in Bethlehem and are in need of a way to survive, Ruth takes on the task of helping work the fields during the harvest where she meets Boaz (Carman), a wealthy man of another Hebrew tribe. Encouraged by Naomi, Ruth offers herself to Boaz partly because of his good standing and another due to the cultural practice of the next closest kin to marry the widow of a family member. Though Boaz loves and wants Ruth despite her Moabite heritage, they are nearly prevented from marrying when another relative has the right to marry Ruth before anyone else. The Book of Ruth is a tale of the great-grandparents of King David and cultural redemption and love.moreless
