The Strawberry Blonde is a 1941 romantic comedy directed by Raoul Welsh. The film is set in 1890 Brooklyn and focuses on the love life of a young dentist, Bill Grimes (James Cagney). Grimes is in love with his childhood sweetheart, Virginia Brush (Rita Hayworth), a beautiful strawberry blonde who enjoys the finer things in life. Bill wants to declare his love to Virginia, but his friend, Hugo Barnstead (Jack Carlson) beats him too it. Bill decides to settle for second best and begins a relationship with Virginia's friend, Amy Lind (Olivia de Havilland). Some time later, Bill gets in to trouble due to some shady business deals. As Bill tries to unravel the mystery of how he got in to the position he did, he begins to re-evaluate choices he has made in his life. Is Bill happy with the choices he has made, or would he redo it all if he got the chance?
