The Stunt Man is a 1980 film directed by Richard Rush. It was nominated for 3 Academy Awards including best actor, best director, and best screenplay. The film begins with Cameron (Steve Railsback), a young veteran, on the run from the police. He stumbles onto the set of a World War I movie and accidentally kills one of the leading stunt men. Eli Cross (Peter O'Toole), the slightly odd and eccentric director, promises to hide Cameron and his bad deeds if he will agree to take the stunt man's place in the film. Cross then begins to exercise tyrannical rule over the movie. He begins putting camera men in harms way just to get the shot and even causes his leading actress to cry just to get real emotion in the scene. Cameron convinces the leading actress played by Barbara Hershey to escape with him. However neither of them can escape because the scene doors are always locked and the guards are always watching. Will Cameron escape with his leading lady, or will the cruel director finish his movie at all costs? Watch to find out.moreless
