The Substitute is a 1996 action thriller about one guy's mission to change an entire culture in a school. In the film, Shale (Tom Berenger) returns home to Miami with his crew after a failed mission as a mercenary in Cuba. Shortly after arriving in Miami to visit his fiance, Jane Hetzco (Diane Venora), trouble begins with the local street gang. Shale takes matters into his own hands when he goes undercover at the local high school. He vows to infiltrate the gang and stop the crime and violence the gang is causing throughout the neighborhood. He discovers the problems run deeper than anyone could imagine and involve some unexpected people. Shale will use all his military experience as he sets out to clean up the streets in this non-stop thriller. Directed by Robert Mandel, The Substitute shows what happens when the new substitute teacher instills his own version of justice in the school.
