The Tailor of Panama is the story of a British spy, Andy Osnard (Pierce Brosnan), and his newly-found Panamanian contact, Harry Pendel (Geoffrey Rush). Andy has been exiled to Panama by the British government for having an affair with an ambassador's daughter. Since control of the Panama Canal has recently been given to the Panamanian government from the United States, Andy thinks that if he can uncover the plans that Panama has for the canal, the British government will remove his exile and welcome him back with open arms. He befriends Harry, who is a tailor for the most powerful members of Panamanian society. His wife, Louisa (Jamie Lee Curtis), also works for the President. Andy sees this as a perfect scenario to acquire the information he desires. There is just one problem: despite Harry's upscale clientele, he never receives any money for his tailoring. So, when Andy starts offering money for information, Harry keeps making up stories about the government and the canal so the money will keep flowing. Harry's stories eventually get him, and those around him, in some real trouble.
