The Talent Given Us is a documentary drama film both written and directed by Andrew Wagner. Released in 2004, the film stars Wagner playing himself along with his parents and siblings each playing their perspective roles. The film chronicles the everyday events of Wagner's retired parents, Judy and Allen, as they trek across the country to inform their son of an open teaching position at his old high school. Judy feeling the need to save her failing relationship with her son, travels with her husband and grown daughters Emily and Maggie to visit Andrew in person. The events that unfold during their road trip expose the raw emotions and buried hurt that every family experiences, but is rarely dealt with. The interpersonal relationships within this family seem at times excruciating to witness. However this film does provide an honest and fascinating depiction of a dynamic family. Although, at times the family dynamics are stranger than fiction, the relationships depicted are brutally honest and refreshing.moreless
