The Tamarind Seed is a 1974 romantic drama written and directed by Blake Edwards. It is based on a novel of the same name written by Evelyn Anthony. After a bad break up, Judith Farrow (Julie Andrews) heads to Barbados looking to rejuvenate her wounded spirit. Shortly after arriving she meets a handsome Russian named Feodor Sverdlov. The two immediately strike up a deep friendship and begin to explore the island together. Their troubles only begin when they leave the island and return home. Judith is an assistant to a minister in the British Home Office, and Feodor is Soviet air attach'' serving in Paris. Both countries intelligence services quickly learn of the island romance and begin to suspect foul play. The British intelligence suspect that the romance was a spy recruitment ploy. Back in Moscow and under interrogation, Feodor admits his plans were to turn Judith into a spy. Both Judith and Feodor are then let go and allowed to continue their no so secret relationship while the spy masters closely watch. Soon the couple tires of being used as pawns and hatch a plan that would allow them to escape together.moreless
