The Thaw is a 2009 science-fiction horror film directed by Mark A. Lewis. Dr. David Kruipen (Val Kilmer) is a world-famous research scientist and environmental advocate. Along with a devoted team of researchers, including nervous Freddie (Kyle Schmid), smart and headstrong Lin (Steph Song) and thoughtful Atom (Aaron Ashmore), David has traveled to the icy isolation of the Canadian Arctic. He is still suffering from the recent death of his wife and the strain this has created between him and his daughter, Evelyn (Martha MacIsaac). When David and his crew of student researchers uncover the remains of a woolly mammoth, the scientist is able to convince his daughter to come join them. By the time Evelyn arrives at the icy outpost, however, she finds disaster waiting to greet her. The research team have become strangely ill. As Evelyn tries to tend to the sick students and figure out what has been causing this illness, she uncovers a prehistoric secret that could spell the end of humanity as she knows it.moreless
