The Toxic Avenger is a 1984 comedy/horror film directed by Michael Herz and Lloyd Kaufman. Melvin Ferd III (Mark Torgl) is a janitor working at the Tromaville Health Club in New Jersey. The health club patrons harrass him mercillesly every day, but all that small, weak Melvin can do is accept the torment. One day, the customers manage to chase him out of a second story window, causing Melvin to plunge into a vat of toxic waste. The chemicals burn and mutate Melvin, turning him into a huge, strong superhero dubbed the Toxic Avenger (Mitch Cohen). Soon, the Toxic Avenger begins to fight against the rampant crime in Tromaville, while also getting revenge on his former tormentors at the health club. However, evil Mayor Belgoody (Pat Ryan Jr.), who is secretly the leader of the city's criminals, is determined to stop the activities of the Toxic Avenger by any means necessary.
