Desperate and in dire need for cash, journalist Jack Brown (Richard Pryor) cannot hold a job long enough to not lose his house. When heâs goofing around in a toy store, he is âpurchasedâ by the owner, a rich businessman and publishing magnate, U.S. Bates (Jackie Gleason), whose son took his âanything in the storeâ push a little too seriously. Jackâs resolve is put to the test as the spoiled and downright awful Eric (Scott Schwartz) does everything to make his week hell, from dumping oatmeal on his head to having him fish in a piranha-infested stream. As Jack and Eric bond while Ericâs ignored by his dad, the two set out to show the high and mighty Bates that cruelty and prejudice can only get him so far.
