The Tracey Fragments is an independent film about a girl whose mind becomes so distorted by teen angst and fantasy, she barely resembles the healthy young girl she used to be. The movie was based on a book by Maureen Medved and directed by Bruce McDonald. The film stars Ellen Page (Juno, Hard Candy, Inception) as Tracey Berkowitz, a 15-year old girl in search of her brother who she assumes she has lost on the way to school one morning. Tracey floats in and out of reality as she embarks on a mission to find her brother. She is pestered by the daunting alley ways of the inner-city, the cruel classmen at school, and her shrink, who her parents insist she sees frequently. In the midst of all the confusion, she is able to focus on one thing: her all-time crush, Billy Zero (Slim Twig). The Tracey Fragments premiered at the 57th Berlinale festival in 2007, and has received a lot of critical acclaim internationally. Its score was written by Canadian band Broken Social Scene.moreless

Page is generally commanding as the self-pitying teenager, but there are several moments when, let down by the text, the young thesp obviously does not believe what she is saying.

Formally, the effect is like watching really cinematic confetti.
