Written and directed by Burt Kennedy, The Train Robbers is a 1973 American Western film starring John Wayne, Ann-Margaret, Rod Taylor, and Ben Johnson. When Mrs. Lowe's (Margaret) husband steals a half million dollars from her, she bands together with three cowboys to retrieve the money and clear her son's good name. Mrs. Lowe puts out a call for cowboys for hire and Lane (Wayne) is one of the first to respond. With he and his men, they venture into Mexico to find where the money was buried. After the loot is retrieved, they encounter a new kind of trouble when a group of bandits and a lone horseman follow their every move in hopes of obtaining the money themselves. Mrs. Lowe and her men must then avoid a deadly confrontation in their race back to the bank to return the money from where it was stolen. The Train Robbers was not well received by critics and was one of the least popular Western films starring John Wayne.moreless
