The Trial is a 2010 drama directed by Garry Wheeler. In the film, Kent "Mac" McClain (Matthew Modine) is a suicidal, retired lawyer living in the Georgia countryside. The tragic lawyer is still grieving over the sudden death of his wife and two sons nine years before. Mac seems to have accepted suicide as his only release from his hellish existence when he receives a request from Judge Danielson (Rance Howard). The judge wants McClain to represent Pete Thomason (Randy Wayne) in a murder trial. Pete has just been arrested for murdering his girlfriend, Angela (Kera O'Bryon), the daughter of a wealthy businessman. After mulling it over, Mac decides he may benefit from helping someone else, so he postpones his suicide and agrees to do it. In order to get ready, Mac hires back his old assistant, Mindy (Nikki Deloach), his investigator, Joe Whetstone (Bob Gunton), and consults with Dr. Anna Wilkes (Clare Carey). Will Mac be able to put his life together by helping someone else, or will the pressure of a murder case be too much for the fragile man?moreless
