The Turning Point is a 1977 drama about an aging ballerina and the tenuous relationship she has with her former rival. Two decades ago, Dee Dee (Shirley MacLaine) became pregnant by ballet dancer Wayne (Tom Skerritt). She made the difficult choice of leaving ballet behind for marriage and family. Her then rival, Emma (Anne Bancroft), stayed with the American Ballet Company where she became a prima ballerina. Dee Dee and Wayne are now married and run a ballet studio in Oklahoma City. Their daughter, Emilia (Leslie Browne), is an excellent ballerina with much potential. At Emma's request, Emilia is invited to join the American Ballet Company. Dee Dee and Emma's reunion stirs up old resentments and unresolved conflicts. Emma, who opted to forego motherhood for a career in ballet, takes Emilia under her wing. After butting heads, Emma is forced to recognize that her days in the sun are quickly setting, and Dee Dee must find the true reason behind Emma's push for her to turn her back on ballet.moreless
