The Underwater City is a 1962 science-fiction film directed by Frank McDonald. Dr. Junius Halstead (Carl Benton Reid) has a vision. He wants to build the world's first sustainable underwater colony, and he will go to any lengths to do so. The dangers of the experiment are clear, especially after the geologist (George DeNormand) dies in an unexpected attack by a Moray eel. Despite this unsettling drawback, Dr. Halstead and his faithful crew go ahead with their plans, certain that they will soon iron out the kinks in the plan. The doctor's bright and attractive niece, Dr. Monica Parker (Julie Adams), offers her services as a psychologist, while Bob Gage (William Lundigan) is the sometimes irresponsible and chauvinistic engineer. The colony gets off to a good start, inhabited by the dedicated crew and a young couple, Lieutenant Steele (Edward Mallory) and his wife Dotty (Kathie Browne). Dr. Halstead rejoices, but it soon becomes clear that there are greater dangers than eels. The colony was built on a fault line, causing mayhem and destruction. It remains to be seen whether the colonists can be rescued or will be left to perish with the city.moreless
