The Unseen is a dark and moving drama exploring the importance of friendship in unveiling and coping with harrowing truths. When Roy Clemens (Steve Harris), a professor, returns to his rural southern hometown after his father passes away, he is horrified to discover that his childhood friend Sammy (Phillip Bloch) has been imprisoned in his home by Sammy's older brother Harold (Gale Harold). Roy tries to uncover the reason for the inhumane imprisonment, and in doing so, revisits a painful childhood secret that he and Sammy share. The southern rural backdrop exposes themes of racism and societal status. Despite the seriousness of the themes and circumstances exposed in the film, The Unseen manages to have moments of genuine and touching humor. The characters are distinct, believable, and unforgettable and truly capture the complex flavors of southern culture. The well-formed characters and intricate plot will keep you thinking about the movie long after you've watched it.
