The Vault of Horror

Movie Summary

Director:
Roy Ward Baker
Released:
1973
Rating:
PG

Five men, strangers to each other, are carried by the lift in a London skyscraper, not to the ground floor as directed, but to a mysterious "sub-basement" - a windowless vault with no apparent exit. The dreamlike situation leads each man to describe a recurring  nightmare from which he suffers. These become the five tales enacted in this film: ``Midnight Mess'', "The Neat Job'', "This Trick'll Kill You'', "Bargain in Death'' and "Drawn and Quartered''.

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • This 1973 horror film was a follow-up to the previous year's unexpectedly very popular "Tales From The Crypt", also made by Amicus Productions. Like the earlier film, it was adapted from stories in the American horror comics of the 1950s (from which the titles are derived). These comic books had been published by William Gaines, who also wrote several of the stories, and were unknown in Britain, where the films were made - they had been banned by the government of the day.
