The Verdict is a 1982 Academy Award nominated drama about a malpractice suit against a large Catholic hospital in Boston. The movie features Paul Newman, Charlotte Rampling, Jack Warden and James Mason. Jack Galvin (Newman) is the once promising lawyer who is now a down on his luck alcoholic. Through a tip from his former partner, Mickey (Warden), he takes on the case of a young comatose woman. A malpractice suit was brought against the hospital by her family, who believes she may have been given the wrong medication. Although Frank is lured in by the potential of a large financial settlement, he soon realizes the case is much tougher than he imagined. The hospital not only has very deep pockets, but a high-priced barracuda of an attorney, Ed Concannon (Mason). Instead of giving up, Frank decides to follow through with the trial in order to regain his respectability as a lawyer and punish the guilty.
