The Villain Still Pursued Her is a classic comedy released in 1940 that follows a young woman, Mary (Anita Louise), who is madly in love with Edward (Richard Cromwell). Early on, Edward's father passes away, with Edward inheriting his father's possessions. Among those possessions is the mortgage to Mary's house. Mary, shocked that the man she so deeply cared for would do such a thing, confronts Edward about the impending foreclosure. There she learns that Edward's lawyer, sneaky Silas Cribbs (Alan Mowbray), is really behind the master plan of foreclosing the house. Soon after the plan is set in motion, Edward and Mary become engaged. With Cribbs' plan hanging in balance, he turns Edward onto the Demon Rum, trying to turn Edward into an alcoholic and thus push his fianc'' away. Luckily for Edward, his best friend William (Buster Keaton) happens to know a crazy and comedic doctor Frederick Healy who might just save Edward and Mary's marriage, and thus ruin Cribbs' plan, after all.moreless
