The Virgin of Juarez is a crime drama based on true events that happened in the Mexican border town of Juarez in the early 90s. The film stars Academy Award-winning actress Minnie Driver as Katrina, a reporter sent to the town to investigate a killing spree of young women. Katrina learns from Father Herrera (Esai Morales) that hundreds of women factory workers have died over the last ten years. The murderer sexually assaulted and killed the women at night while they were returning from work. Patrick (Angus McFadyen), a neighborhood watch person, finds the killer's latest victim, Mariela (Anna Claudia Talancon), a teenager left to die in the desert. Katrina visits Mariela in the hospital and learns that the killer took her pendant of the Virgin of Guadalupe. While in the hospital, Mariela claims to have seen the Virgin Mary, and strange wounds soon begin to appear on her feet and legs. She becomes instantly famous, but also dangerous, after Katrina shows her pictures of wanted men, one of them which she recognizes. After the assassin tries to murder Mariela again, Katrina safely moves her to California. Fame follows the teenager, and everyone there considers her a saint, until she meets a man who's carrying her missing pendant.moreless
