The Visit is a dark 1964 comedy starring Oscar winners Ingrid Bergman and Anthony Quinn as former high school sweethearts. Karla Zachanassian (Ingrid Bergman) may have had very humble beginnings, but she has become the richest woman in Europe but her own shrewd wit. When news of her return spreads throughout her poverty-stricken hometown, the villagers dream of how she will improve their lives. Karla plays on their desires to get a long-awaited revenge. At 17, she was run out of town, pregnant and penniless, while her high school boyfriend, Serge Miller (Anthony Quinn), stayed, married and had a family. Now surrounded by her entourage and the desperate townsfolk, Karla wants one small gesture for generosity. She wants Serge to pay for his youthful neglect at her most desperate hour, with his life. Karla has the money and cunning to bring her plan to fruition, while Serge has become just another poor villager. Based on the classic play by Friedrich D''rrenmatt, this provocative comedy puts the future of a village on one man's head.moreless
