The Waiting Room, a film from director Roger Goldby, charts the events following a chance meeting between Anna (Anne-Marie Duff) and Stephen (Ralf Little) in a London train station prompted by the reminiscences of an elderly man (Frank Findlay) who is waiting for his wife. Anna has recently divorced and is now facing the prospect of bringing up her daughter as a single mother. Her life is further complicated as a result of an affair with George (Rupert Graves), the husband of her next door neighbour and good friend Jem (Zoe Telford). While Stephen's life on the surface appears more settled having recently moved in with Fiona (Christine Bottomly) but there is growing pressure for them to start a family leading Stephen to question what he really wants. Stephen increasingly seeks refuge in his work at an old peoples home and his friendship with one of the residents, Helen (Phyllida Law).
