The War Bride is a 2001 film based on actual events of a seamstress Lily (Anna Friel), and her newly wed husband Charlie (Aden Young). Soon after their marriage, Charlie is called to fight in World War II. The two were living in London, but without Charlie, Lily decides to accept the offer to live with his family. She moves with her new-born daughter to their remote Canadian farm. Adjusting from city living in London, to farm living in Canada, is hard on Lily. Even harder is the unwelcoming hostility of her mother-in-law, Betty (Brenda Fricker) and disabled sister-in-law, Sylvia (Moly Parker). The two women are very traditional and disapprove of many aspects of Lily's life. The true drama of the strained relationships really emerges when Charlie returns and finds himself stuck in the middle of the disagreeable women. He repeatedly tries to find some common ground on which the women can begin to accept and understand each other.
