The War Wagon is a 1967 Western starring screen legends John Wayne and Kirk Douglas. Wayne plays Taw Jackson, a disenfranchised rancher seeking revenge on the mine owner Pierce, (Bruce Cabot), who had him framed and sent to prison. Upon his release, Wayne rounds up a team to raid and rob one of Cabot's gold-laden wagon, the titular war wagon. Douglas plays gunfighter, Lomax, who was once asked to kill Wayne but instead chooses to help him exact revenge and make off with a larger amount of money. Together with explosives expert, Billy Hyatt (Robert Walker, Jr.), the group takes on the heavily armored stagecoach guarded by 12 men. This late period Western's comedic tone gestures toward the revisionist Western heralded by films such as Bonnie and Clyde while still delivering the action and vengeance of a classic John Wayne film. If you like comedy and action, spend some time watching The War Wagon.
