The Way I Spent the End of the World is 2006 Romanian coming-of-age drama. In 1989 Bucharest, the iron-fisted rule of communist dictator Ceausescu has begun to crumple. One day, 17-year old Eva (Dorothea Petrie) and her boyfriend, Alex (Ionut Becheru), accidently topple a statue of leader. After confessing to the crime, Eva is sent to reform school whereas Alex, due to his family's political ties, only gets a stern rebuke. While at her new school, Eva meets Andrei (Cristian Vararu), whose parents have gone missing due to their political views. The pair decide to break out of their school and country by swimming across the Danube to freedom. Meanwhile, Eva's younger brother, Lalalilu (Timotei Duma), has been invited to perform as part of a children's chorus for Ceausescu. Although only 7 years old, he conspires with his friends, Silvica (Marian Stoica) and Tarzan (Marius Stan) to assassinate the ruler as he believes it will allow Eva to stay in the country.moreless
