The Westward Trail is a 1948 western directed by Ray Taylor. When juvenile delinquent Tom (Steve Drake) cannot stay out of trouble in Chicago, his sister Ann (Phyllis Planchard) moves him West to the town of Prairieville. They arrive at the ranch that Ann now owns and meet cowboys Eddie (Eddie Dean) and Soapy (Roscoe Ates). Shortly after Ann gets there, evil gangsters try to shoot her, but Eddie saves the damsel in distress. He then discovers that evil saloon owner Larson (Bob Duncan) told his gang to kill her so that he can get his hands on the rich silver deposits underneath her land. When Tom decides to betray his sister and give the deed to the ranch to Larson, Eddie and Soapy struggle to get it back so that she does not have to return to Chicago. Meanwhile, Eddie tries to teach Tom about how to leave behind his childish ways and become a true cowboy.
