Movie Summary

Director:
Lindsay Anderson
Released:
1967
Rating:
The White Bus is an unconventional and surreal short film about a woman who takes a surprising trip home from her dreary office life. A young girl (Patricia Healey), working in a depressing office in London, decides to return to her childhood home in Manchester. She walks past a hanging body, and begins her journey, and on the way there, she is convinced to board a bus tour led by the Mayor (Arthur Lowe) and hops on for the ride. But this is no ordinary tourist attraction, as the maiden voyage of this weird tour takes the young office worker from a science museum to a steel mill, witnessing a marriage proposal from a stranger and her fellow tour participants turning into mannequins, all the while skating along the line of reality. Lindsay Anderson directs this departure from typical cinema, originally slated to be part of a three act full length movie.
